Lochnagar

The area around Lochnagar has many Royal connections, not the least of which is the club's own bothy (open shelter for mountaineers caught out by bad weather), backing onto Prince Charles' lodge. The mountain inspired Charles to write a story "The Old Man of Lochnagar".

The obvious mountain to climb is Lochnagar (yet again, if you still haven't had a view from the summit). Other candidates include Broad Cairn, Cairn Bannoch, Carn an t-Sagairt Mor and the Stuic. Winter climbing too, if any routes are in condition yet.

There will be the option of a night in the Bothy, probably with one minibus leaving Saturday night and one on the Sunday morning. Anyone wanting to stay the night in the Bothy should know that you'll need a warm sleeping bag and to bring or borrow a stove and cooking stuff.

You will need map Landranger 44.
