Ceilidh

A ceilidh is Scottish folk dance. We usually have more enthusiasm than talent so don't be afraid to come along if you don't know the dances -- neither do we! The band will attempt to teach us the moves before each new dance. Some people claim that the more successful the ceilidh, the more bruises you collect by the end of the evening. This does not indicate violence, just your level of participation!

The ceilidh is usually held in Bonar Hall (near to the Tower building) in association with the Postgraduate Society. However this year looks like being a change to the Marquee (near to the bus station). More details on the mailing list.

You might need a map to find your way home!

Tuesday 22 January 2001 - Burns Night Supper

In honour of Scots poet Robert Burns the club organises a traditional Burns Night Supper and ceilidh, on the closest Tuesday to his birthday, 25 January. The meal is a very traditional haggis, neeps and tatties, plus whisky of course. Most of the men wear kilts, but what do they wear underneath? Some of Burns' poetry is recited, and there is a toast to the lassies, usually followed by an untraditional insult to the laddies! The evening ends with the best ceilidh of the year. A must for everybody, especially foreign students!
